Like quick, coloured stitches through the sonic fabric, there are signs of the indolent warmth of Tom Petty; the sunny guitars of The Feelies. But these passing signs never become the message or the substance of Belinska’s song-writing -they function as small bridges between souls and times,where the present touches the past. Evoking the sudden grace of departures and the sweetness of returns, Lost Illusions could only have come from someone filled with the bright, broken shells of experience. After years of running, his art has become not only an escape from death, but a joyous, tender acknowledgement of it.
