about

This is a co-release with Safe Suburban Home (UK):
safesuburbanhomerecords.bandcamp.com/album/split-screen-ep

The Split Screen EP emerged from a mutual encouragement between two Toulouse-based musicians who, when not playing together in the same bands (slowcore duo Docks and indie-punk quartet No Drama), release their music under the monikers Walk Home Drunk and Comité balnéaire. There are therefore many connections running through these two projects, especially since all the material for the EP was recorded in the same apartment using the same equipment and was refined in a spirit of DIY and mutual help. The split will be co-released in the UK and in France through labels Safe Suburban Home (York) and Hidden Bay Records (Toulouse), mirroring both languages sung on the EP.

• Side A by Walk Home Drunk
walkhomedrunk.bandcamp.com
Daniel Selig has been releasing music as Walk Home Drunk for the better part of a decade, sometimes collaborating with other musicians, sometimes on his own. His side of the Split Screen EP is the result of several years spent experimenting with digital synths, loops and drum sequencers. Songs emerged over time, granting each demo a specific sound and feel. The result is an EP which introduces more electronic elements to Walk Home Drunk’s lo-fi emo-pop, echoing the lyrics which mainly focus on the absurd and dangerous ramifications of modern technology.

• Side B by Comité balnéaire
comitebalneaire.bandcamp.com
Comité Balnéaire first appeared in the 2010’s when Manon Raupp used the moniker to name the audio files she recorded during a remote drawing workshop with inmates. She decided to keep the name when she later released two compilations of improvised lo-fi ambient pop using guitars and drum machines (‘I’, ‘II’). The project became more tangible in 2019 with the ‘Allégresse EP’, released on Spanish label Mondo Canapé, which also included a collage zine. The digitally-released ‘Giroflée EP’ was a further collection of contemplative audio patchworks, of which Manon hasn’t even kept a written trace. Written and recorded at the beginning of the year, the new tracks for the Split Screen EP mark a real turning point in Manon’s work as a composer (and first-time singer) of shoegaze and new wave-influenced lo-fi pop.
