Andrew Younker is one of my fondest Bandcamp discoveries. I first heard their music back in 2016, and our record label’s short history has been linked with them ever since. We released their EP ‘Brainchild’ in 2016, the mini-album ‘Microchasm’ in 2017 and the album ‘Well Wishes’ the following year. Andrew also released a split cassette with Foliage in 2018 and the expectations for new music were strong, to say the least!

‘Togetherball’, written and recorded over the past two years, marks a new step in Andrew’s life and enriches their already solid discography: ‘This is the slowest I’ve ever been at putting together a record since I started making music, had lots of heartbreak this past year and spent tons of energy coming to terms with my identity’. Influenced by various bands such as Stereolab and The Radio Dept. or brasilian artists such as Milton Nascimento and João Gilberto, Andrew Younker manages to synthetise the more refreshing aspects of contemporary dream-pop with intricate and sophisticated song-writing.Behind an apparent airiness, their music encourages real, in-depth reflections.

Once arranged together, these songs appeared to Andrew as a chronicle of their journey towards self-acceptance: ‘I am realizing how heavily it’s tied to identity, and I think it’s really about me being trans before I knew I was trans. This is the longest I’ve ever sat on my music because it felt so much more private than before, but I’m hoping that by releasing it now I can bring someone else the peace it brought me, as well as move on from that painful part of my life.’
