Petit Bureau is a Toulouse-based duo formed by two friends, Stéphanie Marchesi (bass guitar/synths/vocals) and Laetitia Dutech (drums/vocals). They released their debut album ‘RES’ in 2020, followed by the EP ‘The Tiny Desk is Weak’, which launched a lasting collaboration with Greg Saunier from Deerhoof! Their sophomore album ‘Bear’s Brain’ is due January 19 and features nine new tracks, recorded in the Lot countryside and mixed by Greg Saunier in Arizona. The band continues to explore their path of minimalist pop while also sliding into heavier territories. There’s a wide range of sounds and structures: poetic rhymes, fuzzy ostinato, repetitive riffs... The band has decided for this release to give us access to the lyrics, which are full of absurdity and narrative tricks. Topics include the fears which assail us in our personal lives and in society in general, an acoustician’s research about prehistoric caves, among other things. The tension delivered in each song is skillfully balanced between Stéphanie and Laetitia’s vocal harmonies, making this new album one of the most exciting releases to emerge from the contemporary Toulouse scene.
